Otsuka Holdings Co., Ltd. (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Japan; President and Representative Director, CEO: Tatsuo Higuchi) has established a solar power generation facility on the premises of a group company in an industrial park in the town of Naka, Naka-gun, Tokushima Prefecture. The facility began operating in September.

The industrial park in Naka (formerly called Wajiki) is home to the Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. Tokushima Wajiki Factory and the Otsuka Techno Corporation Wajiki Plant. These plants manufacture products related to the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical*¹ businesses products as well as medical plastic container components. The new solar power generation facility is expected to generate approximately 4,000 MWh per year. This will reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 2,000 tons per year for both companies.

The Otsuka group has established the 2050 environmental vision called Net Zero that aims to reduce the group’s total environmental impact of its business activities to zero. The group is also utilizing renewable energy by introducing solar power generation facilities and CO₂-free electricity, improving energy use efficiency by introducing cogeneration systems, and pursuing fuel conversion and other measures globally. Otsuka Group Energy Management Building that serves as the central hub the group’s integrated energy management within Japan completed in 2023 as part of the group’s efforts to boost the consolidation of its energy management resources and pursue a more optimal energy mix.*³
